An ambitious project of the Odisha government and East Coast Railway to give a new look to Bhubaneswar railway station. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources said the construction work of the four-storey building will begin soon and the process of selecting tender for the work is going on.
Bhubaneswar Development Authority and a consulting firm, the Rs 205-crore multi-modal hub will have a centralized four-storey railway station building with basement parking, an amphitheatre, a mela prangan, Parks, Commercial complexes.
The East Coast Railways and the state’s public works department have signed an MoU to build the centralized four-storey railway station building, which will come up after demolishing the present structures. The building will have a basement parking facility for 400 four-wheelers and 5,000 two-wheelers.
The building will have centralized air-conditionin, four second-class waiting rooms for men and women, respectively, with a capacity of 250 passengers each, and four upper-class waiting rooms for men and women with a capacity of 100 passengers each.
Works department secretary NK Pradhan said his department will start construction by the first week of January. The state transport department has also signed an agreement with the Indian Railways for the same.
