Cuttack Baliyatra festival NGT gives green signal to arrangements


The annual historic Cuttack Baliyatra festival, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday allowed the Cuttack district authorities to go ahead with necessary arrangements on the banks of Mahanadi.

The festival which marks the ancient maritime history of Odisha is a yearly event which takes place around this time of the year. It is to begin on 14 November.

The East Zone bench of NGT was moved during the day following a decision last night to approach it to reconsider Monday’s order and allow holding of the historical festival.

On a mention by Additional Government Advocate (AGA) of Orissa High Court, Janmejaya Katakia the NGT bench of Justice S P Wangdi and expert member Prof P C Mishra clarified that the confusion over the conduct of the festival was unfounded.

The Cuttack district collector Mr NC Mishra said the review petition filed had mentioned that the area is not a river bed and it is alluvial area.It is an old land mass. He informed that the allotment of sites to vendors for stalls will begin immediately.
