Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar came into existence in July 22, 2008, inheriting the brand name IIT. IIT Bhubaneswar is steadily evolving as a top global institute in science and engineering.
The Directors of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, Bombay, Roorkee, Madras, Guwahati, Kanpur and Kharagpur met under the Vishwajeet scheme of HRD Ministry, aimed to promote World Class IITs by 2020.
IIT Bhubaneswar along with more 5 IITs aimed to promote Worlds top 100 rank by 2022. The scheme was launched by the ministry in the month of August this year to promote IITs that have a potential to go up in the global rankings.
Making the laboratories world class by augmentation is one of the important points suggested by the IITs. They also discussed ways of making the infrastructure world class.
Encouraging more foreign faculty and foreign students can help in making the institutes go up in global rankings,” said one of the Directors who was present in the meeting.
The permanent campus of IIT Bhubaneswar is spreading over 936 Acres of land. It is situated at the foot of Barunei Hill, which is famous for its rich history. The campus provides a unique serene and pollution free academic environment. IIT Bhubaneswar has Academic area, Residential area and area for Training centres and Research Park. Although IIT Bhubaneswar had started functioning from two transit campuses in the Bhubaneswar city during its inception period, majority of residential and academic activities have now started in the permanent campus at Argul.
