Jagannath Temple Land Sale : Odisha Govt planned to raise Rs 1,000 crore

jagannath-land-saleOdisha Government decided to sale of Jagannath temple land to raise funds for the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). Nearly 54,000 acres of land spread over 23 districts of Odisha and five states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. 26,673.493 acre is located in Khurda district while a major chunk of 16,214.848 acre of land is in Puri district. Government will identify and sell around 18,00 to 19,00 acres in Khurda, Jatni and Bhubaneswar.

Earlier, the State Government had planned to raise Rs 1,000 crore by selling land belonging to Lord Jagannath, which is lying in Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) limits. An MoU was signed between the BDA and the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on February 27, 2014. As per the plan, in the first phase, 220 acres of land would be sold.
