Business Model for Tribal weavers and craftsmen

odisha-tribal-craftsOdisha government signed a deal with the Delhi-based Asian Heritage Foundation (AHF) to create employment opportunities for the tribal weavers and craftsmen of tribal Odisha.

The project, titled ‘Creating inclusive business model for marginalised tribal communities’, will cover 1,600 vulnerable artisan families, of which 70 per cent will be women. It will be implemented in the districts of Mayurbhanj and Koraput from this year to 2018.

The project would be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 2.72 crore, Naveen Patnaik said, adding, the project would involve Primary Weavers Cooperative Societies, Primary Handicraft Cooperative and self-help groups in the process.

The Asian Heritage Foundation is implementing the project, earlier, the organisation successfully implemented similar projects for the rural poor in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
