Rourkela the city in the Sundergarh district is also known as the steel town. India’s Navratna firm SAIL has one of its most profitable plant in the city. To outsiders, the city is famous for its cleanliness and green avenues.

However, this city of extreme cold and heat has some of the spectacular places that everyone must see in his/her life.

Vedvyas
Vedvyas is situated at the outskirts of the city. Some times Vedvyas is considered as a Tirtha or holy place as it is said to be the place where Lord Ganesha dictated the epic Mahabharata to Saint Vyasa. The place offers natural beauty as two rivers Sankh and Koel confluence here.  The place also sees a big fair during the Shivratri.

Hanuman Vatika is situated in the heart of the city and has a 75.6 feet high idol of Pawanputra Lord Hanuman. The Vatika also has various temples dedicated to different Gods. This is one of the most commotion free areas of the city and locals come here to both pray and have fun.

The temple of Vaishno Devi situated on a hill top offers the whole view of the city. With as many as 700 steps to reach the top, this temple is one of the major tourist attractions of Rourkela.

This park also has a small zoo featuring a variety of animals. The colourful watershow organized every evening is a must see for every visitor to Rourkela.
Indira-Gandhi-ParkPicnic Spots
The city is most enjoyable in winters with a variety of picnic destinations around the suburbs. Bluestone, where you can find stones of every colour and shape, Mandira Dam, a beautiful waterfall are two of the most popular family picnic-spots.

Market Places
Ambagan Market of the city is a very budget friendly marketing place. As we know no tour is finished without some shopping, right? So this is where you need to go before you end your visit.

Also, don’t forget to try out various eating joints for Gupchup, Chinese food in the locality. As a denizen, I can vouch that they are absolutely delicious. The town is the fourth biggest town of Odisha and trust me; you will never regret going there.
