Naveen Patnaik presents the Biju Patnaik Award for Wildlife Conservation for 2015-16 to Dr Gouranga Charan Rout. The award carried a citation and Rs 2 lakh in cash.
Odisha State level 62nd Wildlife Week Celebration, organised by the Wildlife Wing, the Chief Minster said, compensation under the relocation schemes will be available to villages in all 19 sanctuaries as well as those under buffer zones of TRs.
Wildlife Wing is also setting up an interactive web portal with incident reporting and tracking facilities. He urged the Wing to use modern technology and social media to further spread the message of conservation.
Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh spoke about the measures being implemented with support from local communities in and around protected areas.
Secretary Suresh Kumar Mohapatra said the Department has undertaken measures to create conservation awareness among the people through nature education. This year, eco-tourism complexes will be set up at 30 places at an estimated Rs 20 crore and these facilities would be managed by the local communities.
