Odisha Government on Tuesday asserted that Jharsuguda airport will be completed by June 2018.
The Government had signed an agreement with Airport Authority of India (AAI) on July 30, 2014 to develop the airstrip at an estimated cost of 210 crore to make it the State’s second largest operational airport after Biju Patnaik International Airport.
Odisha would provide Rs 75 cr and land. This was informed during the review meeting over development of Jharsuguda airstrip under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary of A.P. Padhi. Jharsuguda airport will have a great strategic significance as it would be located amidst a major industrial hub and mineral bearing areas to give an impetus to state’s economy.
Initially, the airport runway will be expanded from 6,000 ft to 9,000 ft.
