Odisha government has decided to provide free cooked food to the ailing children and pregnant mothers in the affected villages of the Malkangiri district.

Addressing mediapersons, district collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy said 35,000 children in the age group of 6 months to 6 years and 6000 pregnant women under Korukonda and Kalimela blocks will be provided free food for one month at 479 anganwadi centres on trial basis. Nutritional support will also be extended to the pregnant women.
Fogging is going on in 65 villages of the district and about 8000 mosquito nets have been distributed. This apart, the task of indoor fogging in 36 affected villages and isolation of the pigs have been completed leaving no room for culex mosquito to affect the kids.
On the other hand, the 12 children who were suffering from JE have been discharged on Sunday, he added. Chakravarthy said it is not conductive for vaccination at a time when the epidemic is on. The vaccination drive will start in December.
